PRE-MEDICINE PROGRAMME (PMP)
The Midlands Academy's Pre-Medicine Programme (PMP) offers would-be doctors, dentists and pharmacists the chance to qualify in and practice their vocations via a proven and an effective study route.
PMP students study the Sciences and Mathematics at the Academy. Successful students who pass this examination are then offered places on Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmacy degrees at Charles University.
Charles University's degree in Medicine, Dentistry and pharmacy are taught in English throughout and they are fully recognised by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the UK's General Medical Council (GMC) [ please enquire for further details .]
The Midlands Academy is pleased to assist successful PMP students with their transfers to Charles University. The PMP has successfully helped international students from all over the world embark on their chosen degree studies.
The Academy assesses the equivalence of qualifications already gained by overseas students seeking to enrol on its PMP by using the advisory service provided by the UK National Academic Recognition Information Centre (UK NARIC).

PMP
(Pre-Medicine Programme)
Many students proceed to various UK Universities to study Medicine through the A-Level system. The trend towards modularity in A-Level syllabuses and the College's experience in running Foundation Programmes have led senior staff to design a Pre-Medicine Programme. As partner institution in PMP, the Academy has chosen Universities in the Czech Republic where medical training has long, well established and universally respected tradition. While we will continue to prepare students for A-Level Sciences, we recognise that limited places available for UK Medicine degrees make it difficult, it not impossible, for a significant number of able and willing applicants to fulfil their ambition to train as doctors and dentists. In establishing the PMP with distinguished universities in the Czech Republic, we are seeking to offer an alternative to the A-Level system to students in this position.
Further details of our Czech Partner Universities are given on request. All of these universities offer degrees in Medicine, Pharmacy and Dentistry, which are taught in English and normally take 5 to 6 years to complete. The standard of university degree training is uniformly high throughout the Czech Republic.
No Czech language skills are required in the PMP taught at the Midlands Academy. Successful PMP students who proceed to a Czech University will be taught in English and will find themselves among international students for whom English is the normal medium of communication.
The Academy will assist successful PMP students with visa formalities. If necessary we can also help with travel from the UK to the Czech Republic and insurance once Medicine Degree studies are underway.
The Czech Republic
An Excellent Place to study
The Czech Republic (formally Czechoslovakia) lies in the heart of Central Europe. It has 22 institutes of higher education with more than 100 faculties, employing 13,000 teachers for more than 94,000 students.
Medicine (or Dentistry) degrees are taught in the English language at Czech Universities. Czech degrees are internationally recognised and the standard of university teaching is extremely high. Their Universities provide international students with a wide range of support services.
A beautiful and congenial environment for students
The Czech Republic is a thriving democracy with a population of c.10.5 million and a dynamic and expanding economy well prepared to meet the challenges of the 21 st Century.
Both its natural and man-made features qualify the Czech Republic as one of the most beautiful countries in Europe. Its geographical location at the cross-roads of Europe enables its people and visitors to enjoy ranges of giant mountains, five major rivers, the world-famous Bohemian Forest and the abundance of natural lakes, moors, meadows, parks, mixed wood, spas and mineral springs which together provide some of the finest scenery the continent has to offer.
The Czech Republic's cities and towns contain illustrations of equally fine architecture drawn from an extensive range of historically diverse and distinctive traditions. Its capital city Prague's buildings include outstanding examples of Gothic, Renaissance, Barque, Art Nouveau, Cubist and more recent styles while the landscapes of other cities are also adored with castles, towers, chateaux, bridges, religious buildings and other monuments from an equally varied rang of architectural fashions. Some buildings concerned have been preserved as museums while others have been rebuilt for business purposes; the effect of both is to provide citizens, travellers and students with a richly diverse environment, which is both attractive and stimulating.
The country boasts a very well established cultural and intellectual tradition, which has over the centuries helped it to win a leading place in international artistic, literacy, theatrical, musical and academic circles.
Its outstanding reputation as a centre of excellence has encouraged leading figures in all the arts to live, study and work here.
The Czech people are proud of their cultural heritage and keenly share this with the rest of the world: hence their willingness to welcome overseas visitors (including students), who can both appreciate and contribute towards its benefits and development.
International students training in Medicine and other fields at Czech Universities come from all over the world to enjoy the fruits of and participate in an educational system which offers the very highest standards in teaching and research, drawing on the centuries of academic and cultural distinction the Czech Republic has to its credit.
Midland Academy students are thus able to prepare for their doctors' (or dentists') degrees in a supportive, congenial, stimulating and distinguished environment which has proved itself well able to attract and inspire leading figures in a wealth of different academic fields over hundreds of years. |
